GSM COMPUTER SERVICES GROUP

In the middle 1970s, Robert Bradspies became the manager of a GSM Computer Services Group. He was advised by a GSM faculty committee named the Computer Policy Group. One of their main responsibilites was allocation of computer time (through the allocation of computer dollars) directly to faculty for research and to students through courses. CCN was given a pool of intramural funds in its budget to support faculty research and teaching from which GSM was given funds for its use. Allocations were made annually for each upcoming academic year with the opportunity to seek additional funds if needed. Each faculty member was assigned a job number by CCN, as was each course. Records were kept for computer usage because CCN charges for GSM computer usage were to be kept within the School's allocation. Faculty with funds from research grants or contracts (extramural funds) paid the going rate for computer time.
