DEDICATION

The installation of the IBM 709 computer system and the newly completed WDPC computer center were formally dedicated on January 29, 1959.

Acceptance on behalf ot the University of California, Los Angeles: Professor Vern O. Knudsen, Vice-Chancellor

The ceremonies were followed by a luncheon at which Mr. Melvyn O. Kappler, President of Systems Development Corporation , Santa Monica, California, gave a speech to some two hundred prominent businessmen,and academic and military dignitaries on "The Impact of Data Processing on our Society."

In conjunction with the dedication, the Center also organized a two-day symposium at which a series of scientific papers were presented under the general headings:

Economics of Management
General Theory of Management
Particular Fields of Management

WDPC was now truly underway with a new building and a large scale IBM 709 computer to serve the computing needs of the business school, the broader UCLA campus, and the Participating Institutions in the Western states.
