IBM 7094 and 7040 Direct Couple System

An IBM 7094 Processor System replaced the IBM 709 in June, 1963. The 7094 had 1.4 to 2.4 times the internal processing speed of the 709 depending on the application. Its basic machine operating cycle was 2 miscroseconds. WDPC easily converted to the 7094 and some programs written for the 7090 could be run on the 7094 without change and with increased speed.

IBM 7040 for Direct Couple System

An IBM 7040 system replaced one of the IBM 1410 systems in February, 1964. This machine could be used as an independent computer, but it could also be directly coupled to the 7094 for high speed preparation of input and output processing for the 7094.

Although FORTRAN was still the language of choice for most users, WDPC staff were now offering COBOL courses in preparation for its use by some users in the future.
