RESEARCH ASSISTANTS AND ASSOCIATES

Each academic year, research assistant appointments were awarded to graduate students with special funds provided by the IBM Corporation. All applications for these positions were reviewed by the WDPC Advisory Commitee and appointments made based on their recommendations. In general, the RAs at UCLA were half-time appointments who helped the Center fulfill its mission by undertaking projects or performing duties outlined by the Director. At Participating Institutions, their duties were prescribed by the WDPC Representative. In each case, their work was a vital contribution to the successful functioning of the Center as well as a unique educational experience for them. Appointments for all years except 1959/1960 are known. For some reason, that academic year was not reported in a WDPC Progress Report.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

Research Associate appointments were made to faculty at UCLA and Participating Institutions. The only public record of these appointments is for years 1957 and 1958. None of the six appointments were to UCLA faculty.
