May 18, 1956: Committee on Finance, Board of Regents

A letter from Hurd dated May 14 is not in the file. It apparently proposed a 50-50 share agreement with respect to costs.

Regent Harbach expressed concern about future lawsuits against IBM and IBM using the Universiy's name and its facilties to carry on commercial business, although he disclaimed opposition.

The University architect said that a building could be completed by fall 1957 if the contract with IBM and a building contract were approved by June (1956).

The University must proceed immediately, i.e. by June, to get all Committee approvals, determine a site and assign top priority for construction, and complete plans and drawings to let contracts for design and construction to the Regents for approval at its June meeting.

Notes of the Finance Committee meeting are available here.

Among many items on the agenda, three more are specifically relevant to this history.
