October 25, 1956: Regents Committee on Buidings and Grounds Planning

The contract with IBM called for completing the computing center building on or before December, 1957, and locating it at the north end of the existing BAE building. In June, the site was approved and the architect selected. Now, this committee reports that the planning is stopped because "the interested people now want to incorporate the project into the Graduate School of Business Administration Building for which even preliminary plans have not been drawn and for which a different architect has been selected."

This means delay, perhaps as much as six months. It means getting approval for the delay from IBM, terminating the services of the architect and paying for services rendered to date, changing the site, and incorporating plans for the computing center in the new building with the new architect.
